The French Agency of the Compostela Routes (Agence française des Chemins de Compostelle) together with the Toulouse Capitole University launches a call for papers for the International Conference “Pilgrims’ Way to Santiago de Compostela, a European cultural route and World Heritage Site: History, issues and outlook”. The event will be held on 4 – 5 April 2024 in Toulouse, France, under the patronage of Marija Pejčinović Burić, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe.
The Conference is focused on the St James ways, certified as the first Cultural Route by the Council of Europe in 1987 and inserted in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1993 (Camino Francés in Spain) and in 1998 (Camino de Compostelle in France). Nowadays the St James Way is the most popular walking route in the world, travelled by hundreds of pilgrims on foot and by bicycle with 440,000 walkers arriving at its final destination each year.
The papers should be focused on one of the following axes:
The proposal should not exceed 8.000 characters and include a problem, a theoretical framework, methodology and a field of study. The submission is open till 30 October 2023 by e-mail to contact@compostelle-lecolloque.org.
