On 28 and 29 May rurAllure invites everyone to join two free walks in Tuscany to discover some of the most beautiful stretches of the Via Francigena and its thermal heritage.
The event, called “I Love Thermal Francigena by rurAllure” or “I Love Francigena Termale” in Italian, is dedicated to all pilgrims and passionate hikers, interested to walk the stage 36 from San Quirico to Castiglione d’Orcia and stage 31 from Gambassi Terme to San Gimignano.

The walks, bringing together travellers, pilgrims, local authorities and associations, provide an opportunity to discover sections of the route through its cultural and natural heritage and local gastronomy.

“I love Francigena Termale by rurAllure” will immerse participants into unique world of two stages of the route, rich in nature, history, art and gastronomy, with particular attention to the thermal sites of Etruscan and Roman origin located along the way.
Participating in the walks, a curious traveller will explore the Park of the Mills (Parco dei Mulini), which thermal springs’ energy was used for mills functioning until the end of the 1800s; the thermal pool at the main square of Bagno Vignoni, one of a kind explored by the team during the site inspection in September 2021 on the first day – 28 May betwen San Quirico and Castiglione d’Orcia
On the second day of the hike, 29 May, one will explore the Hypothermal spring Bollori and Putizza on the shore of the Rio Casciani, near Gambassi Terme and cultural heritage of San Gimignano.

A certified guide will lead the group, explaining the most interesting facts of the stages. Light refreshments at stop points will be offered on the courtesy of local authorities and associations.
The area to be explored is at the center of the project pilot focused on the Thermal heritage and others on the Ways to Rome, working on heritage of 3 routes leading to Rome. Among them, the Via Francigena which in 1994 was declared a Cultural Route of the Council of Europe.
Alongside pilgrims and enthusiasts, the staff of rurAllure and AEVF, institutions and some local associations will take part in the walk to actively promote slow tourism along the Via Francigena, verifying the state of the trail and the waymarking. A moment of sharing and exchange with compulsory registration and free participation.
