Today, 15 June 2021 the great walking event “Via Francigena. Road to Rome 2021. Start again!” officially starts!
The European Association of the Via Francigena Ways (EAVF) is a rurAllure partner, contributing to the Work Package 5 “Thermal heritage along the Road to Road” and the leader of the Work Package 8 Communication and Dissemination.
To mark the Association’s 20th anniversary, the European Association of the Via Francigena Ways launches a long walk, departing on foot on 16 June from Canterbury Cathedral, the “zero km” of the Via Francigena itinerary. The group of pilgrims, walkers, local authorities, bloggers and the EAVF staff will walk their way to Rome, arriving on 11 September and continuing to Santa Maria di Leuca, the final stop of the Via Francigena in the south, to be reached on 19 October.
The Via Francigena is one of the oldest pilgrimage routes to Rome, which has served kings, armies, merchants and pilgrims throughout the history.
3.200 km, 148 stages, 5 countries, 16 regions, 644 municipalities: today the Via Francigena constitutes one of the most attractive cultural routes in Europe!
During the entire walk, the EAVF team will document the route, its heritage, culture and traditions, making videos, taking photos, writing stories and articles, contributing to relaunch of sustainable tourism along the routes.
The valorization of rural territories through its heritage is one of the main objectives of the rurAllure project, that is why the initiative of the Via Francigena has a full support of the project partners.
